The Maid With a Child is a Korean romantic fantasy webnovel and webtoon, originally published in Korean as 애 딸린 하녀 (Ae Ddallin Hanyeo). The story follows Adlen, a maid whose modest dream of a quiet marriage is upended when her master returns from war and hands her a baby to raise. The webtoon launched on KakaoPage in August 2026, adapted from a 133-chapter novel that completed in 2025 . This guide explains what the series is, where to read it officially, and how the webtoon and novel differ.

What Is The Maid With a Child About?

The premise is a classic romantic fantasy setup with a childcare twist. Adlen is a maid whose life goal is simple: marry a handsome husband and raise well-behaved children. Her master, whom she has never met, returns from the battlefield and, instead of war spoils, throws a baby at her with the instruction “Raise him” .

He offers her an absurd package to secure her cooperation: double salary, a house, a carriage, livestock, wedding funds, and a promise to find her a husband. Adlen refuses. The master persists. She is eventually coerced into becoming the nanny for the baby, who turns out to be the Crown Prince of an enemy nation .

The novel’s description adds a detail the webtoon synopsis does not: the master did not say the man he was giving her was himself . That is the romantic hook. The story is tagged as comedy, fantasy, romance and slice of life .

The Webtoon vs the Novel: What’s the Difference?

The two versions are related but distinct.

The novel is complete at 133 chapters plus nine side stories . The webtoon adaptation began in August 2026 and had reached 25 chapters by the time of the Anime-Planet listing . The webtoon is credited to Seolhee for the script, MAJI for the art, and Jusiha for the original work .

This means readers who start with the webtoon are getting a visual adaptation of a story that already has a complete ending. If you prefer to know how it finishes, the novel is the route. If you prefer the visual format, the webtoon is ongoing.

Where to Read The Maid With a Child Officially

The original Korean releases are on KakaoPage and Kakao Webtoon (Daum) . These are the official platforms. The novel and webtoon are both Korean-language originals.

There is no indication in the search results of an official English translation on a licensed platform. The English-language listings on Anime-Planet, Novel Updates and ManhwaTracker are database entries, not reading platforms. Fan translations exist, but these are not authorised by the publisher.

If you want to support the creators, the official Korean platforms are the route. If you cannot read Korean, you will need to wait for a licensed English release or use fan translation aggregators, which carry the usual risks of unlicensed content.

How the Series Has Been Received

The novel has a rating of 3.9 out of 5 on Novel Updates from 42 votes . The distribution is polarised: 57% gave it five stars, while 10% gave it one star. That pattern suggests a series that works well for its target audience but alienates readers who wanted something different.

A reader review on Novel Updates describes it as “a sweet story that combines childcare and the discovery of what a true family and true love actually is,” praising the character growth and the bond with the baby . The same review describes the male lead as “an unpopular man despite being handsome and influential” and “a good boss despite initially being scary.”

The childcare focus is central. If you are looking for a romance-first story, the baby is not a background detail. If you enjoy domestic fantasy with a slow-burn relationship, this is aimed at you.

The Other “Maid With a Child” Story You Might Encounter

There is a separate, unrelated story that appears in archival records with a similar description. The Christchurch City Libraries archive lists a work by C. Shemu Joyah about “a housemaid, who is sexually abused by her boss and made pregnant, [and] is forced to give up her son in order to go on with her education” .

That is a Malawian story about sexual abuse, women’s rights and the legal justice system. It has nothing to do with the Korean romantic fantasy webtoon. The overlap is purely the phrase “maid with a child.” If you search for the title and encounter references to Malawi or legal drama, you have found the other work.
